So the surgery happened. They did get the small intestines opened up so that I can eat, which is in and of itself huge for immune function. But there was a complication. The original site they were going for actually has cancer wrapped around a major artery so they couldn’t address it. Too dangerous.
But they addressed another tumor site that was at the stomach and upper small bowel. And they inserted a colostomy (or ileostomy?) bag. So technically I can start eating. But there is still tumor activity which will need addressing later.
They took pathology in order to create my own personal immune therapy for me, which should be ready in three days. They are hoping that will help reduce the tumor that is around the artery so that later there could be another surgery to take out that other obstruction that we were originally going for.
So the news is positive and negative. Disappointing. But at least we’re moving in the right direction.
So we will be doing some major fundraising for the next surgery. $tay tuned.
Thank you so much for posting this update. I have been very eager to hear how you are. I am very grateful you can eat. I can only imagine what a relief that must be. I hope you experience tremendous pain relief as a result of this surgery. xoxo Phyllis
