I have a minor infection on my finger. It started a day or two ago as, I believe, a split in the skin due to dryness. And then something has apparently gotten into it, and being that my white blood cell count is far below normal due to chemo, my body is having a harder time with healing this thing up. It woke me up at 3 o’clock in the morning hurting.
So I visited with my doctors’ office today and was put on an antibiotic that is specific to skin things and shouldn’t affect the gut. So that’s a relief.
But man! This teeny little injury on my finger hurts like the dickens. It’s swelled up a little bit, and it’s red, and extremely sensitive. The least little brush or nick is yelp-worthy!
So, this is a side effect of cancer treatment. I debated with myself about whether it was really necessary to go to the doctor for it, but I couldn’t let it slide, because I already knew my white blood cell counts are down, and for that reason I’m being advised to stay away from the rec center or gym for a while longer. So in order to prevent it from getting any worse, I thought I’d better take care of it.
Wish me luck and good healing please!
Had forgotten how chemo fragilizes patients. Minor things swell up to be bigger things. Must be careful.
